Garage Flooring That Handles Real Work

Abner Flooring and Remodeling installs professional garage floor epoxy coatings across the Greater Atlanta metro, and we do it right from the first coat to the last. If your concrete is dusty, cracked, stained with oil, or just an eyesore every time you pull in, a proper epoxy system fixes that permanently. Call (404) 706-8999 today and we'll come out, look at the floor, and tell you exactly what it needs.

Most epoxy jobs fail because the prep was rushed. We don't rush it. We grind the concrete down to bare, clean surface before we touch a single can of coating, and we fill cracks and spalls before anything goes down. The coating bonds to the concrete instead of sitting on top of it, which is the difference between a floor that lasts a decade and one that starts peeling by spring. Cost depends on the size of the slab, the condition of the concrete, how many cracks need filling, and the finish you want. Chip and flake systems, solid color coats, and metallic finishes all carry different price points. Every job is different -- contact Abner Flooring and Remodeling for an accurate estimate. We also handle concrete epoxy floor installation for basements and shop floors, so if you've got more than a garage to cover, one call handles it.

What a Real Epoxy Job Includes

This is what separates a coating that lasts from one that peels.

01

Mechanical Grinding

We use floor grinders, not acid wash. Grinding opens the concrete's pores so the epoxy bonds at the surface level instead of just sitting on top. You can't skip this and call it done.

02

Crack and Spall Repair

Every crack gets filled before a drop of epoxy goes down. We use a rigid filler that doesn't flex with temperature swings, because a flexible patch under a rigid coating cracks right back through.

03

Moisture Check

Georgia concrete holds moisture, especially in garages with no vapor barrier below the slab. We check for moisture before we coat, because epoxy over a wet slab bubbles up within a few months.

04

Primer Coat

The primer soaks into the ground surface and gives the topcoat something real to grip. Most DIY kits skip this step. We don't.

05

Broadcast Layer or Solid Color

Decorative chip flake, solid color, or metallic finish goes down second. This is where you get the look -- and the texture that keeps the floor from being a slip hazard when wet.

06

Polyaspartic or Epoxy Topcoat

The clear sealer on top protects everything below it from UV, tire marks, oil, and abrasion. This coat determines how long the whole system holds up. We don't cut it thin.

How We Work, Start to Finish

  1. 01

    Free On-Site Estimate

We come to you, look at the slab, check moisture, measure the square footage, and talk through your finish options. No guessing on the phone.

  2. 02

    Prep and Repair Day

We grind, fill, and prime the concrete. This is the most important day of the job. We take it seriously because the coating is only as good as what's underneath it.

  3. 03

    Coat and Seal

We apply the color system and topcoat, let it cure properly, and walk you through the floor before we leave. You'll know exactly when it's ready to drive on.

Why It Matters

Bare Concrete Is Costing You More Than You Think

Unsealed concrete absorbs oil, holds dust, and breaks down faster under vehicle weight and temperature swings. Once oil soaks in, it never fully comes out. You mop it, you seal it with a big-box store product, it peels up in a season, and you're back where you started. A proper multi-coat epoxy system seals the slab completely. Oil wipes up in a minute. Dust stops collecting. Cracks stop spreading because the coating bridges them under a rigid film. And honestly, the floor just looks like a space worth using. Atlanta's humidity is hard on concrete. We've seen plenty of slabs in this metro that looked fine until someone pulled back the mat and found moisture damage that had been sitting there for years. We check for that before we coat anything. If the slab has a moisture problem, we tell you before we start -- not after. Our epoxy floor coating work covers garages and beyond, so if you've got a shop, a basement, or a utility space that needs the same treatment, ask us about it when we come out.

Common Questions About Garage Epoxy Coating

What's the difference between an epoxy coating and a concrete stain?
Concrete stain soaks into the surface and changes the color. It offers minimal protection against oil, abrasion, or impact. Epoxy coating builds a hard film on top of the concrete that seals it completely. It resists oil, chemical spills, tire scuffing, and heavy foot traffic in a way that stain never will. They look similar in photos but perform completely differently over time.
How much does it cost to epoxy a 500 square foot garage floor?
Cost depends on the condition of the concrete, how many cracks need repair, whether there's a moisture issue, and the finish system you choose. A standard two-car garage in decent condition runs differently from a slab with significant spalling or a floor that needs a moisture barrier installed first. Every job is different -- contact Abner Flooring and Remodeling for an accurate estimate.
What are the real disadvantages of epoxy flooring?
The main one is cure time -- you're off the floor for 24 to 72 hours depending on the system and temperature. A second disadvantage is that a poorly prepped slab will cause the coating to peel, sometimes within months. That's why prep is the whole game. Done correctly on a sound slab, epoxy is about as maintenance-free as a garage floor gets.
Does Georgia's humidity affect how epoxy cures?
Yes. High humidity during application slows cure time and can cause hazing or delamination if the installer doesn't account for it. We schedule coatings around temperature and humidity windows and we don't rush the cure phase. That extra attention is part of why the finish holds up long-term in Georgia's climate instead of failing in the first summer.
Can you coat a garage floor with existing paint or a previous epoxy layer on it?
Depends on what's there. Peeling or failed coatings have to come off completely before anything new goes down. Grinding handles most of it, but severely compromised slabs may need more aggressive prep. We'll tell you what the floor needs when we look at it. Putting a new coat over a failing old one is the fastest way to waste money on a garage floor.
Do you handle garage floors in finished or insulated garages?
We do. Enclosed garages with drywall and trim actually benefit more from a clean floor -- the contrast makes the space look finished instead of forgotten. If you're already doing interior renovations on the space, adding an epoxy floor at the same time makes sense. One crew, one visit, whole space done.
Do you do garage epoxy on the same visit as other flooring work?
Often yes. If you're already having us handle laminate flooring inside the house or refinishing hardwood in adjacent rooms, we can schedule the garage coating on the same trip or back-to-back days. One crew covering multiple surfaces in one project saves you time and coordination.
